Griselda Blanco – the Miami Godmother // December 26th, 2012 // Gangs and OrganizedDuring the 1970’s and early 80’s, the illegal drug trade in Miami took a profound change in direction, a change that directly impacted the city. As the rich “elite” of Miami spread the gospel of cocaine, the prices dropped and cocaine quickly took the lead as the drug of choice for most users in the United States. This lead to a “boom” in sales that resulted in an endless stream of money funneling into Miami.
Directors' dutiesThis a large and complex area of law and only an outline can be given here. Reference should be made to one of the leading reference works on company law for a fuller account.Directors' duties arise in different ways;General duties under the Companies Act 2006 (came into effect October 2007) These are largely a statutory restatement of the common law and equitable rules, indeed sec170 says: (3) The general duties are based on certain common law rules and equitable principles as they apply in relation to directors and have effect in place of those rules and principles as regards the duties owed to a company by a director. (4) The general duties shall be interpreted and applied in the same way as common law rules or equitable principles, and regard shall be had to the corresponding common law rules and equitable principles in interpreting and applying the general duties. (5) The general duties apply to shadow directors where, and to the extent that they are capable of so applying (amended by sec98 of the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act 2015).Note also: Sec178 (1) The consequences of breach (or threatened breach) of sections 171 to 177 are the same as would apply if the corresponding common law rule or equitable principle applied. Sec179: Except as otherwise provided, more than one of the general duties may apply in any given case.Duty to act within powers (1st October 2007)Sec171: A director of a company must- (a) act in accordance with the company's constitution, and (b) only exercise powers for the purposes for which they are conferred. 6.2.2. Duty to act for the benefit of the company (1st October 2007)Sec172 (1) A director of a company must act in the way he considers, in good faith, would be most likely to promote the success of the company for the benefit of its members as a whole, and in doing so have regard (amongst other matters) to-(a) the likely consequences of any decision in the long term,(b) the interests of the company's employees,(c) the need to foster the company's business relationships with suppliers, customers and others,(d) the impact of the company's operations on the community and the environment,(e) the desirability of the company maintaining a reputation for high standards of business conduct, and(f) the need to act fairly as between members of the company. 6.2.3.

Forced labor for political prisoners in ChinaNot to be confused with Laukkai in Burma, or Lào Cai in Vietnam..Laogai (simplified Chinese: 劳改; traditional Chinese: 勞改; pinyin: Láogǎi), the abbreviation for Láodòng Gǎizào (劳动改造; 勞動改造), which means "reform through labor", is a slogan of the Chinese criminal justice system and has been used to refer to the use of penal labour and prison farms in the People's Republic of China (PRC). Láogǎi is different from láojiào, or re-education through labor, which was an administrative detention system for people who were not criminals but had committed minor offenses, and was intended to "reform offenders into law-abiding citizens".1] Persons detained under laojiao were detained in facilities that were separate from the general prison system of laogai. Both systems, however, involved penal labor.

n a nutshell, if your mortgage/note is in a trust and in a judicial foreclosure state, we can show you how to fight the banks and likely win the foreclosure action. Ultimately, you might even be able to get your home free without ever making another mortgage payment, under some circumstances and if you do it right. (Chances are the bank that is foreclosing has no legal right to do so and it never paid a dime for your property promissory note. They are the ones that want a free house.) The first time I encountered the idea that our criminal-justice system functions much like a racial caste system, I dismissed the notion. It was more than 10 years ago in Oakland when I was rushing to catch the bus and spotted a bright orange sign stapled to a telephone pole.
A smaller nose, perkier breasts, a tighter tummy -- from time to time, many of us find ourselves scrutinizing our bodies and wondering if perfecting our appearance would make life just a little bit more, well, perfect. We'd be lying if we said we'd never gone on some crazy crash diet to whittle our waists or used a pricey cream to tone our décolletage, but for some, it's an obsession that extends much further: to plastic surgery. But what you may not realize is the price of perfection goes deeper than your pockets.

Robert Harris on the writing of POMPEIIIf anyone had told me five years ago that my next novel would be set in the time of the Roman Empire, I would have laughed in their face. I had written fiction about the Nazis (Fatherland), wartime Britain (Enigma) and Josef Stalin (Archangel) and although I felt a need to escape from these chilly, monochrome landscapes, it never crossed my mind that I might take a leap into the luxurious, sun-drenched world of the Bay of Naples in the first century. What I thought I would write next was set a novel in America, perhaps in the near future. The story I had in mind might loosely be described as ‘the Walt Disney Company takes over the world’: a thriller about a utopia going horribly wrong — a novel about hubris and nemesis — and I even found an epigraph that I meant to have printed just after the title page, a typically aggressive, provocative passage from Tom Wolfe: ‘American superiority in all matters of science, economics, industry, politics, business, medicine, engineering, social life, social justice, and of course, the military was total and indisputable.
An ischemic stroke occurs when an artery in the brain becomes blocked.Ischemic (“is-skeem-ic”) stroke occurs when an artery to the brain is blocked. What’s the Basic Structure of Nerves? The nervous system sends messages from nerve endings to the brain and from the brain to cells, tissues, and organs. Cells of the nervous system sometimes secrete chemical messengers instead of neurotransmitters. These specialized nervous system cells are called neurosecretory cells, and they produce neurosecretions.Neurosecretions, which are classified as hormones because they carry information from sensor cells to target cells, can be released directly into the bloodstream or transported to storage cells, from which they are later released into the bloodstream. One purpose of neurosecretions is to carry information to target cells that are not near the nerve cells that produce them.

Click here to read reviewer Sandie Kirkland's take on The Information Officer.Mills' latest novel combines the elements of espionage with a love story in a setting as evocative as it is beautiful. Assigned to the Mediterranean island of Malta, Max works in the Information Office, disseminating information to the locals and offering up for public consumption a cocktail of cold, factual, and apparently unbiased news along with the monitoring of enemy radio stations in the Mediterranean. As the axis powers strafe the island, intent on wiping out every aspect of the Allied presence, Max’s position and his very existence on the island is threatened when a serial killer is found to be murdering “sherry queens” - dance hostesses who work the bars and bawdy music halls that infest the disreputable quarter dubbed the Gut at the lower ends of Valetta.

Recently I asked many CAD software users regarding their opinion of the best mouse for CAD software and which one they themselves use or prefer to use and I got some really thoughtful responses.Although I am not an expert when it comes to technical aspects of a mouse but on the basis of specifications, reviews, responses from CAD users and my own opinion I am listing ten best mouse for CAD software users.OverviewI have noticed that large mouse which fits properly in your hand is comfortable to work with. Dedicated keys for Pan, Zoom, and other functions is an added advantage but too many dedicated keys generally become an overkill unless you really like a programmable mouse with lots of dedicated keys.Resolution or sensitivity is another parameter on which quality of a mouse can be judged but so far all mice offer an acceptable value of resolution or DPI and I believe that this parameter can be ignored when considering a good mouse.Lets now have a look at some mice which are used by many CAD professionals and which came as a good recommendation from them.3D connexion CAD mouseThis mouse can be designated as an all-purpose CAD mouse which is ergonomically designed to give you the comfortable grip and better navigation control.

For other uses, see Monsoon (disambiguation).Monsoon () is traditionally defined as a seasonal reversing wind accompanied by corresponding changes in precipitation,1] but is now used to describe seasonal changes in atmospheric circulation and precipitation associated with the asymmetric heating of land and sea.2]3] Usually, the term monsoon is used to refer to the rainy phase of a seasonally changing pattern, although technically there is also a dry phase. The 2011 NEC has once again revisited the rule explaining when a structural metal building frame can serve as a grounding electrode. When the structural metal is in direct earth contact for 10 ft or more, with or without concrete encasement, it is considered to be connected to the earth and is acceptable for use as a grounding electrode [250.52(A)(2)(1)]. The hold-down bolts securing the structural steel column that are connected to a concrete-encased electrode are considered to provide a satisfactory earth connection [250.52(A)(2)(2)].

David Frasher's BiographyI grew up on a farm in Missouri about twenty five miles from Kansas City. Our family members were deeply committed to one another and my values and life skills were enriched through hard work and the love and wisdom of parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I didn't realized it at the time, but those experiences provided me with the foundation to be a leader and an appreciation for the virtues of service, honor and integrity that would sustain me and guide my actions throughout a career in public service. After high school, I attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy or psychoanalytic psychotherapy1]2] is a form of depth psychology, the primary focus of which is to reveal the unconscious content of a client's psyche in an effort to alleviate psychic tension.3]Psychodynamic psychotherapy relies on the interpersonal relationship between client and therapist more than other forms of depth psychology. In terms of approach, this form of therapy uses psychoanalysis adapted to a less intensive style of working, usually at a frequency of once or twice per week.
The Just in Time or JIT method creates the movement of material into a specific location at the required time, i.e. just before the material is needed in the manufacturing process. The technique works when each operation is closely synchronized with the subsequent ones to make that operation possible.JIT is a method of inventory control that brings material into the production process, warehouse or to the customer just in time to be used, which reduces the need to store excessive levels of material in the warehouse. Also Known As JIT The Just In Time method of manufacturing and inventory control helps to reduce the amount of inventory throughout the supply chain, therefore it is highly thought of as a cost savings methodology. However, in order to execute Just In Time correctly, not only does each operation within a manufacturing or supply chain process need to be synchronized - but customer demand in each operation needs to be forecast accurately. In non-Just In Time methods, unforecast spikes in customer demand are offset by safety stock. Safety stocks also provide insurance against failures in production or quality issues. But with Just In Time, safety stocks are often not used, as the synchronization of operations is meant to preclude the need for added inventory. While the theory of Just In Time is attractive to many in supply chain and finance, the practice is difficult to implement. To have an optimized supply chain, an organization must supply its customers what they want, when they want it - and spend as little money as possible getting that done.

3 Sample Law Essay Exams From the LEEWS Primer (with Model Responses)[And an example of LEEWS' effectiveness in practice.]1 Actual Civil Procedure Exam With Model Response (written by a LEEWS grad) and Professor CommentsIntroductionThe entire grade (!!) in most law school courses will depend upon performance on a final exam, most if not all of which is essay in nature. (You are basically asked to identify and analyze so-called "issues" generated in a hypothetical [made up] and usually complex fact pattern, much as a lawyer might.) Most exams are 3-4 hours in length, and either "closed" or "open book." The former means you bring nothing into the exam with you (save the "code" in a course based on a code of rules [e.g., IRS Code in taxation, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure in civil procedure]). Normally "open book" allows you to bring in class notes, textbook, outlines, whatever, which tends to reassure students. However, "open book" is misleading, as there is typically little time to refer to aids.

Every generation has its share of awesome cartoons, but I happen to think '90s cartoons are just a little bit better than all the rest. The '90s brought an explosion of creativity in the field of animation, and as a result, the '90s produced cartoon masterpieces that have stood the test of time. The cartoons you watched as a kid not only hold up today, but in some cases they are even better as seen through your adult eyes.
A patent foramen ovaleA cause of poor oxygen delivery in CFSThe idea here is that if mitochondria go really slow, the heart does not beat strongly. This can result in an opening of the foramen ovale, a hole between the left and right atria (which normally closes as a flap at birth), so blood bypasses the lungs and does not pick up oxygen as it should.

Relationship between pressure and volume in a gas at constant temperature Boyle's law, sometimes referred to as the Boyle–Mariotte law, or Mariotte's law (especially in France), is an experimental gas law that describes how the pressure of a gas tends to increase as the volume of the container decreases. A modern statement of Boyle's law is The absolute pressure exerted by a given mass of an ideal gas is inversely proportional to the volume it occupies if the temperature and amount of gas remain unchanged within a closed system.1]2]Mathematically, Boyle's law can be stated as Pressure is inversely proportional to the volume.

Is Nursing the Right Path for You?As it is not the ideal path for everyone, you must carefully consider this career choice, reflecting on your own strengths and motivations as well as what you desire most in a workplace and schedule.Successful nurses possess numerous skills and qualities, including:Healthcare facilities rely on nurses during all hours of the day and all days of the week, including holidays. The life of a nurse is different than that of a classic 9-5 worker; nurses must be flexible and willing to face the sometimes challenging hours of care. As with other prominent healthcare professions, duty sometimes calls the nurse away from important holidays and family gatherings. Many healthcare facilities offer onsite daycare as a benefit for their staff, but in other environments childcare can become a challenge for nurses as well.Prospective nurses must also consider the stressful nature of the job.
Code of Justinian, Latin Codex Justinianus, formally Corpus Juris Civilis (“Body of Civil Law”), the collections of laws and legal interpretations developed under the sponsorship of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I from 529 to 565 ce. Strictly speaking, the works did not constitute a new legal code. Rather, Justinian’s committees of jurists provided basically two reference works containing collections of past laws and extracts of the opinions of the great Roman jurists.

The Australian governments could be given the power to force people in coastal areas to move from their land due to climate change, a report released in late October said.FULL REPORT: Managing our Coastal Zone in a Changing Climate: the Time to Act is NowA report into the effects of climate change on the coastal regions was issued by the House of Representative's Standing Committee on Climate Change, Water, Environment and the Arts. The 18 month inquiry said that rising sea levels, more frequent storms, cyclones and floods along the coastline are putting beach front properties at risk.As a result the inquiry has canvassed the option of forced retreats with the “the possibility of a government instrument that prohibits continued occupation of the land".Queensland is noted as the most at risk as rising sea levels will potentially affect billions of dollars of beachfront housing. The report does not go into whether landholders would be fully compensated for the forced retreats and, if so, who would pay.Another option raised in the report is forcing coastal residents to pay a regular levy to compensate those amongst them who have to move due to climate change. It concluded that action to combat the effects of climate change on the coast was urgently needed, as was national leadership. It is estimated that 80 per cent Australians live near the coast. What is coastal erosion?Coastal erosion is the permanent loss of land along the shoreline. The coast is constantly adjusting to changes in wave and tide processes and sediment supply, so it is important to distinguish between short-term changes in the coast and long-term coastal erosion. Short-term shoreline changeShort-term shoreline changes do not constitute coastal erosion. There changes occur over periods of days to several years.

Homology modeling, also known as comparative modeling of protein, refers to constructing an atomic-resolution model of the "target" protein from its amino acid sequence and an experimental three-dimensional structure of a related homologous protein (the "template"). Homology modeling relies on the identification of one or more known protein structures likely to resemble the structure of the query sequence, and on the production of an alignment that maps residues in the query sequence to residues in the template sequence.
For the concept of authority to make legal pronouncements, see Jurisdiction. In United States law, competence concerns the mental capacity of an individual to participate in legal proceedings or transactions, and the mental condition a person must have to be responsible for his or her decisions or acts. Competence is an attribute that is decision specific. Depending on various factors which typically revolve around mental function integrity, an individual may or may not be competent to make a particular medical decision, a particular contractual agreement, to execute an effective deed to real property, or to execute a will having certain terms.

Much of the reasoning for this stems from the idea that physical conditions can affect mental health and that mental conditions can affect physical health.Unlike desires or dreams, our thoughts and emotions don’t live entirely in the mind.

In this short but stirring account of why one family made the decision to leave Castro's Cuba, and how that family came to call Madison, Wisconsin, their new home, Silvio Canto has provided an unusual look at one family's travails and journey, which occurred while he was a young boy in Havana and then in his adopted country. Like many in Cuba, Canto's parents initially believed that the Castro regime would be an improvement over the dictator Fulgencio Batista, whom Castro replaced in power in early 1959.

In a new book on fixing the U.S. health care system, my good friend Dr. David Lawrence discusses the need for leadership and discusses the attributes of some great leaders. I was particularly struck by his comments about the very strong leadership capabilities of one of our most admired presidents; Abraham Lincoln. Specifically, Lawrence focuses on the way Lincoln put his cabinet together and how he interacted with that group as well as with Congress, the soldiers in the war and his constituents. Here are six characteristics of Lincoln, as described by Dr.
Daily Phonic and Language DrillsThe booklet is teacher-made and contains just the words, but not the skills or directions. The directions or rules are in your reading and language manuals. Directions for the Quiz or Teach and Test:First:The first 5 words were called out as a spelling test.Next: I would have a *few students per word go to the board and write their answers and the rest of the class would decide if it was correct, and go over the rule. The best way is to go word by word until you have done all 5. This is where most of the phonic reinforcement is done. Students check their own work by comparing their answers with the answers the students wrote on the board. (Also having students write on the board gave the class an opportunity to check handwriting errors like p, g, and y sitting above the line or backward letters.) * (I wanted every child go to the board not just a few eager ones, so I wrote all the students name on popsicle sticks, put them in a can names upside down, then I would pull names until all were gone, put them back and start over.)Last: The last 5 were called out as a spelling test and check by the teacher.Note: Sometime this would follow the skill lesson and other times it was used to review skills.
